Annual Report 2010 - 2011
Secretary’s
Message…
Let the life of the deprived
bloom and blossom.
I am immensely delighted to share
our experiences, achievements, challenges and activities of the KMSSS for the
period of 2010-2011. This organization
has grown from strength to strength with the predetermined plan, through following
a systematic approach according to the aims and objectives of the project and
programme.
The KMSSS has successfully
completed thirty seven years of social service programmes and holds many awards
and merit certificates from the Government, Banks and Non Government
organizations. Two decades before, the
target population of below poverty level people were leading a simple,
satisfied and transparent life of social solidarity with an average income of
one $ a day, per family. But, today the
income of the family has been increased to 2 $ per day, but traders, business
community and Government employees only are managing with their income, whereas
the poor strata though statistically show an increase in per capita income, their
life style indicate a declining trend.
People are very busy to find income, either fairly or in crooked way
leaving the rights and lawful ways of social development and change.
The process of empowering the
target population of large number of individuals and groups to reach further
ladder of growth towards the vision and mission of the organization is on the
anvil to make them attain the state of self sustenance in life helping people
to help themselves.
The KMSSS have initiated two more
new projects –1. TNVRC (Tamil Nadu State NGOs and Volunteers Resource Centre)
with an aim to build capacities of community based organizations such as SHG,
PLF (Panchayat Level Federation), Trainers of Mahalir Thittam and to undertake
projects on Women Development and 2. Vazhikattum
Thittam, exclusively to benefit the disabled with welfare schemes in our area
of operation. Streamlining the projects and
programmes and sensitizing people on their changing needs and preparing them is
a complex process, which we are experiencing and serving the people through
enhancing the capacity of the people, staff and organization.
The IOB-KMSSS Joint venture
economic development scheme has been reintroduced this year to serve the economic
viability of Dalits and people of the operational area.
We convey our sincere gratitudes
wholeheartedly to our beloved national and foreign partners for their generous
assistance. We thank the Governing body,
general body and RSO (Resource Support Organization), Project Selection Committee
for their unstinted cooperation and valuable expert opinions and
suggestions.
On behalf of the organization and
the people’s representatives of the area, we express our respect, regard and
tribute to the Most Rev. F. Antonisamy, D.D., STL., President, Bishop, Very
Rev. Msgr. C. Peter Francis, V.G., Rev. Fr. G. Christuraj, Treasurer and our
Joint Secretary Rev. Fr. A. Arul Prakasam.
The staff of the organization and
the CBOs (Community Based Organizations) have rendered valuable support and
earnest effort in execution of the programme and projects which need to be
appreciated.
With my warm good wishes,
Sincerely yours,
Fr. S. Alphonse,
Secretary.

A Shift in Agriculture
Practices of Operation:
·
Many people of the project area realized the importance and use of
natural manure. As a result 75 families have been utilizing the natural manure
in their farms.
·
By using natural pesticides in the field, the farmers harvested
more yields in groundnut and paddy cultivation comparing last year. More over the pesticides have been prepared
as per the instruction given to them by the staff.
·
In congruence of the global scenario, people were motivated to
plant tree seedlings in their garden to have green house effect and as a result
107 farmers have newly planted fruit bearing tree seedlings which can give more
income at a latter period.
·
Animal rearing practices were promoted among them to facilitate
natural manure preparation and use. Due
to our education, 76 farming families have purchased goat, cow and
poultries. They get good yield through
use of these animal wastes as manure.
·
Through use of natural manures and pesticides in their farm, the
farmers are enjoying good yield of crops and income from Cashew nut
cultivation.
·
Neighbouring farming community of the project area villages, after
seeing the benefit of natural farming method of cultivation, switched over to
the traditional natural farming practices with vigour.
Revolving Fund:
From the repayment of
revolving amount, during current year 120 families have received loan, at the
rate of Rs.10,000/- for each and utilized the assistance for productive and
development purposes of land and crop management in the area of operation.
