2. Kolping India

Project Operational Area: Kumbakonam, Michaelpatti and Jayankondam Vicariates of Kumbakonam Diocese.

Aim: For strengthening the development of spiritual renaissance, economic sustenance through love, justice, equality and brotherhood among Christian community.

Objectives:

«  To encourage the true spirit of Christian way of life.
«  To empower the groups through skills development and increase economic standard, community life and citizenship.

Groups belonging to the parishes of Susaiapparpattinam, Ayyampettai, Punalvalvasal, Ammanpettai, Pattinamkurichi, Jayankondam and Keela Michaelpatti are regularly conducting special Mass during Lenten season.

æ  Michaelpatti, Susaiapparpattinam group members jointly organized a religious pilgrimage to Uvari and Manapad and Kumilanguzhi group members went to holy places of Acharapakkam.

æ  Rs.1000/- was donated to a sick person by Mathur village groups of Annai Theresal and Jayarakkini Annai.

æ  Ammanpettai group members donated a sum of Rs.1000/- for their village school building fund.

æ  In Susaiapparpattinam the group celebrated grandly the Christmas and presented new dress and meals to 2 poor family members.  During Lent special prayers and meals were provided to all people.

æ  An illegally married couple who separated themselves in the middle of their life were helped to compromise and now they are living together.

Economic Programmes through Bank Linkage:

Ø  Ayyampettai group of 15 persons received a loan of Rs.3,00,000/- and utilized for Kiln production, children education, tailoring shop and small business.

Ø  For one member of the group, a sum of Rs.10,000/- was provided by Kolping India on the recommendation of KMSSS, as a compensation for fire accident and loss of dry fish shop.  She has recovered from loss and started sale of dry fish again.

Ø  The Ammanpettai group with a loan of Rs.2,00,000/- engaged in Kiln work, grocery shop and rearing Milch Animals and goats.

Ø  Through IGP loan 8 persons are rearing Milch animals, 20 persons are constructing houses.

Ø  The Kumilanguzhi village group obtained an amount of Rs.60,000/- as loan.

Ø  In Kumbakonam and Jayankondam area Kolping India federation groups are formed and functioning.

 Revolving Fund to Groups:


To equip and empower the Kolping groups, twelve groups were given a total sum of Rs.3,00,000/- at the rate of Rs.25,000/- for each person.  They have invested in lands or assets and their social dignity and economic status have been improved.

As special assistance a sum of Rs.13,000/- was provided by National Office of Kolping to meet out disaster mitigation measure.
